On Monday news broke that Apple had a big surprise in store for punters this coming weekend to mark its 10 year retail anniversary. With talk of black curtains, hardware locked in back rooms ready for installation and employees pulling all nighters, many have been speculating whether Apple has a brand new device up its fruity sleeve. Others, however, claim it could be nothing more (or less) than a brand new NFC payment system.

Apple’s reclusive CEO Steve Jobs, while usually just as mysterious as the company he runs, occasionally grants the general populous an insight into his thoughts and feelings via personal replies to emails sent to his publicly-available email address (sjobs@apple.com, if you want to try your luck).

I switch smart phones like they’re going out of style. Mostly because they are always going out of style. I’ve broken more carrier contracts and paid for more devices at full retail price than I care to admit. Last month, it all happened again. I’m one of those defectors who ditched their iPhones with AT&T Mobility and switched to Verizon Wireless.

I did it again. I bought another iPhone. This time it’s the same iPhone that I already own. Less exciting. Nothing new. Just the same old iPhone 4, but this time with Verizon Wireless. Instead of waiting in line for maybe 10 grueling hours to get my hands on Verizon’s iPhone 4 today, I decided that having it in my hands before Mobile World Congress wasn’t worth it, so I pre-ordered online.

NEW YORK — I finally got my big break! I’ve written thousands of articles and columns over the span of at least a decade and all it really took to get noticed was me sitting next to John Oliver. My family, friends and colleagues don’t really care about what I wrote last week or this column I’m writing now, do they? Television is what matters — I should know that. It turns out, if you’re not on TV or in the movies you’re just another wannabe. I’m still a wannabe, but at least I can say I was on The Daily Show.

Verizon have been all over CES this week, touting the speed of their 4G network and showing off the shiny new handsets that will be taking advantage of it. So it raised a couple of eyebrows when invitations started arriving in tech journalist’s inboxes announcing a press event in New York on Tuesday.

Over the weekend many of us in Europe put the clocks back in preparation for the long, cold winter ahead. I’m personally a big fan of the system, as it means I don’t have to get up before dawn (a procedure nobody should have to be subjected to in a rational society).

In Korea, unless you have been strolling down the streets with your eyes shut, wearing an oversized visor and matching blindfold with your head encased in a cardboard box, you will have without a doubt noticed the tablet tension that is building on the humid streets of Seoul.
