There was a victory for music owners and operators of so-called “music locker” services today as a judge in New York ruled such services do not infringe copyright, as claimed by a conglomerate of record labels in a case against website MP3tunes.com.

Not a minute seems to go by where some company does not announce some new awesome application or service that is made even more awesome by its ability to do whatever it does from just about anywhere. This movement towards being unwired anywhere at any time is gaining momentum due to the tech industry’s love affair with the “cloud.” Also known as server farms run by large corporations where all of your information is kept safe (?) and secure (?) for you whenever you need it.

A few months ago Amazon surprised the world by launching its Cloud Drive and Cloud Player, a music locker service that allowed users to upload and store their entire music collection (well, up to 5GB of it) to stream and download as they wished.

The launch of Google’s all-browser operating system, Chrome, was tempered somewhat last month by the fact that Acer, one of the two launch partners, didn’t have their hardware ready on time.

Google just wrapped up its Chrome keynote at I/O 2011, during which SVP of Chrome Sundar Pichai and Co. revealed some of the details surrounding the long-overdue launch of Chrome OS, including some pretty attractive pricing for enterprise and education users.

Around this time yesterday we were just starting to hear rumblings about what the launch of Google Music would entail – and they were spot on. The service was debuted as predicted, with all the rumoured features and functionality. We point this out because, 24 hours later, another interesting, and completely plausible, rumour has surfaced courtesy of a story in Forbes.

Google Inc. has been rolling out plenty of new features to its Docs productivity suite over the last few months, most noticeably enabling editing on mobile devices in response to the increasing proliferation of smart phones and tablets. Now the search giant has added another one of those features you didn’t realise was missing until you try it, “Discussions.”
