Speaking at Intel’s Software Day in San Francisco on Thursday, Doug Fisher, corporate VP and GM of the software and services group’s software division said Intel was putting a key emphasis on pulling in application developer talent to help drive Intel architecture forward.

Qualcomm Incorporated has teamed up with Sesame Workshop India, an organization promoting mobile education in India, to launch the Radiophone project – an initiative to provide scores of children from migrant populations with consistent educational experiences.

Good news for workaholic TouchPad users today, as QuickOffice confirmed it had added editing capabilities to its WebOS app. The app, which came pre-installed on HP’s now discontinued TouchPad tablet has until now been read-only, meaning users can see, but not make changes to their documents.

Despite how it may appear, I do try to avoid bringing Apple into every one of my WOTW columns, though by doing so I make this job harder than it needs to be. I mean the company is such an integral part of the decisions that many in this industry make that to not include them is really a job itself. Plus, with names like “iPad” it seems Apple products and decisions are ripe for some ribbing.

Not too long ago we heard some evidence that eReaders – specifically Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color – were being snapped up by the world’s womenfolk. Now according to some official numbers from Nielsen, women are buying almost two thirds (61%) of all eReaders sold.

A little while ago Google announced they had purchased the g.co domain name, and were planning to use it exclusively for linking to Google-owned sites. Their existing URL shortening service, goo.gl, was to remain for user-generated links to any URL they pleased.

There was a victory for music owners and operators of so-called “music locker” services today as a judge in New York ruled such services do not infringe copyright, as claimed by a conglomerate of record labels in a case against website MP3tunes.com.
