Despite how it may appear, I do try to avoid bringing Apple into every one of my WOTW columns, though by doing so I make this job harder than it needs to be. I mean the company is such an integral part of the decisions that many in this industry make that to not include them is really a job itself. Plus, with names like “iPad” it seems Apple products and decisions are ripe for some ribbing.

How do you shop? Do you prefer to go to the mall or are you one of those people who buy everything through the Internet? A global survey from IBM Corp. with 30,000 people around the globe showed that when it comes to shopping, Latin American’s consumers are more likely to adopt technologies such as [...]

Not too long ago we heard some evidence that eReaders – specifically Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color – were being snapped up by the world’s womenfolk. Now according to some official numbers from Nielsen, women are buying almost two thirds (61%) of all eReaders sold.

There was a victory for music owners and operators of so-called “music locker” services today as a judge in New York ruled such services do not infringe copyright, as claimed by a conglomerate of record labels in a case against website MP3tunes.com.

I have a confession to make, I’m a history buff. I’m a sucker for historical novels, love a good period drama and, probably most importantly, I read history when I was at university. So it’s really no surprise that as soon as the HP TouchPad made the transition from current product to relic of the digital past, I absolutely had to run out and buy one. Oh, yeah, that and the $100 price tag, which you’d have to be a dodo to ignore.

Wow! Now that was a crazy week for the mobile device market. First Google went all crazy in announcing plans to acquire Motorola Mobility to the chagrin of it seems just about everyone; and just yesterday Hewlett-Packard went even crazier announcing it was basically shuttering its mobile operations including the WebOS business it acquired along with Palm last year for more than $1 billion.

Bing, Microsoft’s play in the search market, has been with us for just over two years now. Although the division continues to lose money, Microsoft’s seemingly infinite marketing budget has seen their service steadily encroaching on arch-rival Google’s territory.

In many cases, when I read that Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) ask for something on the wireless industry, I have a knee-jerk reaction to roll my eyes. (That is if your knee can trigger an eye-roll.) However, the two representatives, who asked the General Accounting Office to make sure wireless [...]
