DiggLet it not be said that the RCR team is not dare deviling and adventurous, dear readers! This past week our team climbed the world’s fourth largest telecom tower – and the second tallest freestanding tower in the world - in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to get some good shots of the structure, whose antenna reaches up to a whopping 421 m (1,381 ft).
The observation tower sits at a slightly lower 335 m (1,099 ft), but that’s still a fair distance above solid ground, and thus not an easy shlep for this vertigo challenged writer.
officially named Menara KL, the huge structure was completed in 1995 and is operated by Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Telekom Malaysia Group. It isn’t all about tech though, as the building also acts as the Islamic falak observatory, where Muslims can see the crescent moon which marks the beginning of Ramadhan, Syawal, and Zulhijjah.
To mark its dual purpose, the tower’s insides are as magnificent as its antenna is high, with lobby ceilings made from exquisite cut glass domes, which shimmer under the lamplight.
with its 22 levels, 4 elevators and 2,058 steps, the construction certainly is something to look at. No wonder it was chosen as a first pit-stop in The Amazing Race Asia!

Sylvie, I am a Malaysian and the name of the tower is not Menara Tower. Menara means tower in Malay. So, Menara tower is just redundant. It’s correct name is Menara KL (Kuala Lumpur) or KL Tower in English.

older xp machines often have dual cd/dvd & some arn’t strong enough to burn or open up install, use strong burner software like nero 9 & if possible cut machine back to one optical disc, sata or like sony dru, seem to get over. dell is more balky, compaq, ok to install, yet dell runs -=7=- software like dream. still not as powerful as 690 & up chipset, yet ,for 2001 to 2005 machine, can really add good stuff, like IE9. BTW in Sandy Bridge Vs. Llano test, Intel is far worse, llano can match980x intel, SB pictures of insides show something ohrendously damaged, Not even in same class of quality as AMD llano. So tiger direct has a8-3850 in stock & shipping. more to follow in sept with Fx series llano, sweet spot of quality, for now. trinty 50% more in 60 months. AMD is going to pump up, onlu intel hope is 3D transistors & Chipset R on xeon coming in year. Nice to see Sylvia is still writing, after so much macho gruff from:Guess Whom.
