While Google worked closely with Nvidia on its Gingerbread and HoneyComb versions of Android, Texas Instruments (TI) is the software firm’s latest best buddy when it comes to Ice Cream Sandwich, with Qualcomm rumored to be on the BFF list once Jello comes around.
Sources in Taiwan revealed to RCR that while Nvidia had scored big with Tegra 2, Tegra 3 just wasn’t quite hitting targets, so Google has turned to the ever reliable TI in order to optimize its Android operating system for the firm’s Omap 4 architecture.
“TI are just so relaible,” a source close to the manufacturing industry in Taiwan confided in RCR. “If they say they’ll have something done by Tuesday, it’s done on Tuesday, and it’s done right,” he added.
Meanwhile, the great Goog is said to be eyeing up Qualcomm for its next-next generation Android version, Jello.
“Google isn’t doing this to give each chip firm a turn, it is being purely utilitarian in choosing which platforms to optimize for, going for the ones it thinks are best at any given time,” our source told us.
So it seems Nvidia’s Google well is running dry, with TI in for a big season and Qualcomm gearing up for a good first half of 2012.
