New year, new employees for HP’s newly acquired Palm, it seems, with job postings a plenty from the firm which is looking to hire mainly software engineers for its upcoming webOS offerings.
Job listings on LinkedIn, Palm’s own recruitment page and SimplyHired show the firm is looking for a plethora of programmers from senior software engineer for e-mail sync to senior manager for information and product security, to app developers.
Rumor has it, HP is on the lookout for folks who can help it beef up its app developing Enyo Framework Team as well as techies to tot up the firm’s support network.
It’s not just engineers getting an employment boon from the HP/Palm team, however, even actors are getting in on the action.
According to a leaked casting call from the DirectCast site, HP and Palm are looking for “young, student, hipsters” “fun, spontaneous, colorful people,” with “good style” who are not “corporate looking” with “good hands” to star in adverts for the firm’s Broadway, Manta, and Topaz devices.
For those feeling befuddled, the Broadway is a phone along the lines of the Pixi, the Topaz is apparently the much rumored PalmPad tablet, and the Manta is still very much a mystery.
According to the rumor mill, Palm’s Topaz tablet is likely to be a 10-inch WebOS device based on an ARM chip – although which vendor flavor we still don’t know – with a front and rear facing camera, built in WiMAX and USB ports. It is due to launch at some point in 2011, but it is highly unlikely to be announced at CES, with MWC a more realistic bet.
HP/Palm is also looking for some more “sophisticated” types too. “men and women 25-35, that are good natured, fun and very stylish,” the ad starts out before adding the capitalized caveat “WE DO NOT WANT CORPORATE LOOKING PEOPLE…WE WANT ARTSY, HIP, CLASSY, PROFESSIONAL TYPES WHO OWN THEIR OWN BUSINESS…THEY ARE NOT WALL STREET TYPES, BUT MORE HIP, GOOD LOOKING, SMART, STYLISH PEOPLE (NOT THAT PEOPLE WHO WORK ON WALL STREET ARE NOT J BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.”
Do you know what Palm means? Does this mean the Topaz is not going to be very productively useful, with all style and no substance? We can’t wait to find out!
