It’s been a big week for phone leaks. First we saw the long-rumoured PlayStation phone, and now various sources have simultaneously leaked news of the impending launch of the Google Inc.’s Nexus Two – the sequel to the much-lauded but under-sold Nexus One, which launched back in January.

Nov. 8 is the date the launch is supposedly taking place – allegedly at a press conference in New York with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. Why Google has switched from HTC Corp. to Samsung as a manufacturing partner is at this point unclear – although it could have something to do with the close work the two companies have done together on the Galaxy S phone line and Galaxy Tab.

An entirely separate tipster has come forward claiming that U.K. phone retailer Carphone Warehouse will have exclusive rights to the handset in Britain – which raises questions as to whether Google will offer the handset through its own web store as it did with the Nexus One. While the American press excitedly jabbered in January about Google shaking up the mobile industry by selling its handset separately from carriers, us in the U.K. shrugged our shoulders and asked what all the fuss was about. That buying model has been available in the U.K. for years – I buy all my phones outright, and pay £15 per month for a plan that iPhone users on a two-year contract have to pay £35 for.

Meanwhile, a source from Gizmodo claims to have played with the new device – reporting it sports a 4-inch AMOLED screen and curved plastic back like the iPhone 3GS. It was also running a “very buggy” version of Android – presumably an early build of the 2.3 version dubbed Gingerbread.

At this point the internals are unknown, however the Samsung connection would point to some sort of Hummingbird processor similar to what’s inside the Galaxy S lineup.
