.
Word on the web is that VoIP service Skype is working very closely with Facebook to provide “deep integration” that would allow users to call, text or message their friends directly from inside the social networking service.
RCR Unplugged asked a Skype executive about the rumors this morning at Skype HQ in Tallinn, Estonia but the firm remained tight-lipped, despite the screenshot already doing the rounds on the web, originally emanating from AllThingsD.
Kara Swisher from AllThingsD also wrote the deal would be a “significant and wide-ranging partnership that will include integration of SMS and Facebook Connect, as well as voice chat.”
Skype has 124 million users globally, while Facebook boasts a whopping 500 million, so a joint project by the two has huge potential.
Sources also say Facebook Connect will be available in the Skype v5.0. Stay tuned and we’ll update you with more news as we hear it.
