These late summer months are proving to be a veritable BlackBerry harvest, with first the unveiling of the Torch and now more leaked details about the purported successor to the Bold 9700, the 9780.

The ever resourceful Boy Genius Report (BGR) has managed to get its grubby paws on what is claimed to be an internal memo detailing the upcoming device’s specs and October launch timeframe.

According to the document, the Bold 9780 will sport a much improved five-megapixel camera, 512MB of RAM (double that of the 9700) and the BlackBerry 6 OS.

In terms of external appearance, not much will differ from the current 9700 model, although the resolution of its 2.44-inch display may be slightly improved at 480×360. Unlike the Torch, which sports both a full QWERTY keyboard and touch interface, the 9780 will not have a touchscreen.

Other standard features include support for microSDHC cards up to 32GB in capacity, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 3.5mm audio jack.

No mention of pricing was made, but it is believed the phone should be available through several North American GSM carriers owing to its support for a wide range of bands, with previous leaked images showing clear AT&T branding.

Meanwhile, in related BlackBerry news, it would appear that a leaked version of the latest BlackBerry 6 operating system has surfaced over on the CrackBerry forums – version 6.0.0.161.

It’s unclear what improvements this latest build brings to the table and, as with all unofficial software versions, potential users install the OS at their own risk.
