Rumors of a Google Nexus Two tip up

.

Despite reports that Nexus One was the end of the line in terms of Google designed handsets, mobile tech site Neowin is reporting Google is hard at work on its successor, although details remain sketchy.

The timing certainly could be convenient with rumours that builds of Android 3.0 (codenamed Gingerbread) are already floating around in the wild and what with Google itself having stopped sales of the Nexus One online.

Others remain skeptical, especially since Google CEO Eric Schmidt already appears to have nixed any plans for a Nexus two. Earlier this month the Google chief said:

“The idea a year and a half ago was to do the Nexus One to try to move the phone platform hardware business forward. It clearly did. It was so successful, we didn’t have to do a second one. We would view that as positive but people criticised us heavily for that. I called up the board and said: ‘Ok, it worked. Congratulations – we’re stopping’. We like that flexibility, we think that flexibility is characteristic of nimbleness at our scale.”

Some believe, however, that plans for a Nexus Two were already so far advanced by the time Google decided to ax the project that it didn’t make sense to throw them out altogether. Indeed, there are those who say Google decided to push ahead with the Nexus two while still stopping the development of any future Nexus devices.

However unconfirmed the rumors may be, we’re sure with something this juicy someone will either stand up to confirm or deny it shortly. After all, apparently the device is set to launch next month.

We can’t say we’d be disappointed if Google announced a pretty little 4.3 inch screened eight MP camera beauty running on one of those hummingbird A8 cortex processors.
